Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Minimal ingredients and steps. We don’t need much to make this recipe, which means fewer dirty dishes and hassle. Perfect for an easy-to-follow recipe.
  • There’s no marinating! While marinated meats are delicious, they also take time. We want our steak and we want it soon, so toss your patience aside and preheat the grill.
  • They’re versatile. You can use just about any cut of steak or veggie for these steak kabobs. I used a sirloin here, but anything but cube steak would work well. Cube steak is pretty tough so I don’t recommend using it unless you can cook it for a while.

How to Make Garlic Steak Kabobs

Prep

  1. Place your wooden skewers in water to soak. If using metal skewers, you do not need to do this.
  2. Chop the steak into 1-inch square pieces and then place them in a container or a bowl.
  3. Cut all of the veggies into 1-inch-sized pieces and place them into a different container or bowl.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of garlic pepper to the steak pieces and toss together to combine.
  5. Toss the vegetable pieces with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of garlic pepper.

Assemble

  1. You can do this in any order that you choose, but I like to alternate 2 veggies between every piece of meat because I feel that it gives the skewers a nice balance, but it’s really up to you!

Cook

  1. Grill or saute the skewers on a pan over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes per side or until the meat and veggies have a nice browned color on all sides. You’ll want to cook them on high heat so that nothing gets overcooked – nobody wants mushy veggies and tough steak.
  2. Let the kabobs rest for 5 minutes before serving.

What is the best steak for kabobs?

You can use any steak that you may have on hand or find on sale, but the best cuts for kabobs usually include sirloin steak, flat iron steak, or strip steak, but even tenderloin would work nicely. Just remember to cut the meat all the same size so that it cooks evenly.

Why soak kabob skewers?

Soaking wooden skewer sticks are important for getting the best results. If you cook your kabobs on a grill without soaking the skewer sticks, they can catch on fire due to the dry wood. Another thing is that soaking will prevent the wood from splintering, so no matter how you plan on cooking the kabobs, you don’t have to worry about flakes of wood ending up in your mouth.

What goes with steak kabobs?

Garlic steak kabobs can go well with so many different side dishes ranging from BBQ favorites like salad, baked potatoes, or corn on the cob. It also makes a great addition to a bed of cooked white rice or served over a nice green salad. Of course, to keep it simple you could just serve them up with some baked sweet potato fries or more grilled veggies.
